Viking Women Slated to Open NSIC Tournament vs. Northern State

Tip-off is set for 5:30 p.m. at the Sioux Falls Arena

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. -- For the second time this season, the Augustana women's basketball team and the Northern State Wolves will square off. However, this time the winner of the contest between the third-seed Vikings and the sixth-seed Wolves advances to the NSIC Tournament's quarterfinals round. Augustana and Northern State hit the hardwood Wednesday, Feb. 27 at 5:30 p.m. inside the Sioux Falls Arena and fans not in attendance can follow along at GoAugie.com/Live.

Tickets for the NSIC first-round games can be purchased online at GoAugie.com/tickets, or in person at the Premier Center box office from 10 a.m.-5 p.m., or on gameday at Sioux Falls Arena starting at 4 p.m. Current Augustana students can receive a free ticket by swiping their valid ID at the game in the front lobby.

Augustana enters the matchup with an all-time 27-18 record with the Wolves.

Earlier this season the two teams squared up on the road and the Vikings walked away victorious 75-66. In that meeting in Aberdeen, the Vikings got on the board just five seconds in as a Vishe' Rabb euro step inside gave the Vikings their first two points in the game. Rabb went on to score a game-high 19 points along with six rebounds. Rabb was an efficient 7-of-11 from the floor and was 3-of-4 at the free throw line. Her 19 points came along with two assists and two steals.

Five other Vikings reached double-digits - Abby Hora and Lynsey Prosser dropped 12 points, while Allie Walter tallied 11, Janelle Shiffler scored 11, and Camryn Hay had 10.

Coming into this game Augustana holds a 21-10 (13-9 NSIC) record, while Northern sits at 10-18 (7-15 NSIC) record.

Opening up the postseason, the Vikings are led by four double-digit scorers including  Lynsey Prosser with a team-high 13.8 points per game. Shelby Selland (13.5), Rabb (10.8), Hora (10.5) round out the scoring.

On the glass, Selland leads grabbing nearly six boards per game. The team is second in the nation with 1293 total boards.

Scouting Augustana:
 Augustana is 21-10 overall (13-9 NSIC) and is averaging 74.4 ppg.
• The Vikings are outscoring their opponents by 10.6 points per game, which is 3rd in the conference.
• Augustana is holding their opponents at just under 64 ppg. 
• Augustana is shooting 41.5 percent from the field as a team, which sits the Vikings in 6th in the NSIC.
• Augustana is averaging 41.6 rebounds per game, which places them 2nd in the nation with 1293 total boards.
• The Vikings dish out 15 assists per game, which is 3rd in the NSIC and sits them 11th in the nation with 466 total 
assists.
• Augustana is grabbing 10.5 steals per game, which places them 9th in the nation with 324 total steals. 

Scouting Northern State:
• The Wolves are led by Paula Krueger, who is in her 1st season.
• NSU comes into this conference matchup with their most recent win coming over Minot State win streak and a 10-18 (7-15 NSIC) record.
• Overall, they are shooting 38.9 percent as a team from the field (587-1510).
• The Wolves are averaging 57.6 points per game through 28 games.
• NSU is led by Braianna Kusler. Kusler averaging 11.7ppg, followed by Lexi Wadsworth who has chipped in in 10 per game.

Augustana in the Postseason:
• Just a season ago, for the first time in program history, Augustana was the NSIC regular season champions.
• The Vikings are the 2018 NSIC Tournament defending champions.
• Last season, Logan O'Farrell won NSIC Tournament MVP.
• Augustana is 18-8 in the NSIC Tournament all time.
• Since the Vikings joined the NSIC in 2008, they have only had one first round exit.

Augustana in the NSIC Record Books:
• The Vikings have secured 20 ALL-NSIC honorees.
Dave Krauth won NSIC Coach of the Year in 2017-18.
Shaunteva Ashley won NSIC Player of the Year in 2014-15.
• The Vikings have tabbed two NSIC Freshman of the Year ( Alex Feneney and Shaunteva Ashley).
• Four Vikings have won NSIC Defensive Player of the Year.
• Five Vikings have been placed to the NSIC All-Defensive Team in program history.
Logan O'Farrell and Shelby Selland are the two Vikings who were apart of NSIC-All Freshman Teams.
• Eight student-athletes have been apart of the NSIC All-Tournament Team in program history.
• The Vikings have tabbed 68 NSIC All-Academic student-athletes in program history.
