SIOUX FALLS, S.D. -- The Augustana track and field team will be represented by two student-athletes competing at the NCAA Indoor Track and Field National Championships in Pittsburg, Kan. at the Robert W. Plaster Center on Friday, March 8 and will run through Saturday, March 9.
To earn All-American honors a student-athlete must place in the top-12 in their event. The top-eight placers will earn first-team All-American honors and the remaining four earn second-team accolades.
The Vikings have two qualifiers for the NCAA Indoor Championships in two events. Augustana will be represented by junior Olivia Montez Brown in the women's pentathlon and senior Paul Meloche in the 60m hurdles.
Montez Brown qualified for the event after a junior season to remember. The junior put up her best point total of the year in the Pentathlon at the NSIC Indoor Track & Field Championships recording 3,712 points. Montez Brown also scored the single-most points at the NSIC Championships with 25.
Last season at the NCAA Championships, Montez Brown took fourth in the Pentathlon with 3,863 points.
The women's pentathlon is set to take place at 10 a.m. on Saturday, March 9. The junior will start competition in the 60m hurdles and end with the 800m.
Meloche qualified for the 60m hurdles after a season in which he found a rhythm in the closing meets. The senior tied his personal best of 8.14 seconds during the SDSU Last Chance to cap off the regular season, before surpassing his personal best in the NSIC Championships by shaving off an impressive 0.12 seconds for a time of 8.02 seconds.
Meloche is set to compete in the prelims of the 60m hurdles at 2:45 p.m on Friday. The senior is in heat one of two and will run in lane two. If he places in the top-eight he will advance to the finals on Saturday at 5:10 p.m.
