Montez Brown Places Second in the Heptathlon

Kelly and Urtusuastegui earn All-American Honors in the steeplechase

KINGSVILLE, Texas -- The second day of the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships finished up on Friday and two Vikings earned All-Americans Status with their efforts. Olivia Montez Brown would also finish up her successful outdoor season with a second-place finish in the heptathlon.

Montez Brown opened up day two with a mark of 18'10" in the long jump and a throw of 36.87m in the javelin which was good enough for 607 points. The mark was a personal best in the javelin and put her in second place going into the final event.

In the 800m, the Chester, Cheshire, England native, ran a time of 2:26.06 which brought her final total to 5,260 points and setting a new school record for total points in the heptathlon.

Later in the day, Mackenzie Kelly and Jesus Urtusuastegui set their sights on the 3000m steeplechase. Urtusuastegui would place seventh with a time of 9:00.14 which gave him his first All-American honors on the track.

Kelly after seeing her teammate place seventh would place seventh as well with a time of 10:50.19 in which she earned All-American honors for the first time.

Day 3 Schedule

Josh Barrows came into the meet ranked 24th in the men's 400m hurdles and would finish sixth in the prelims to secure a spot in Saturdays final that are set for 7:30 p.m.

After earning her first All-American honors, Kelly will look to add to her success in the 5000m run in Saturday finals that are scheduled to start at 8:05 p.m. Live stats for both Barrows and Kelly's races can be found here.
