Three Vikings Earn CSCAA Scholar All-American Team Honors

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. -- The College Swimming & Diving Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) has named 1,221 swimmers and divers to the Scholar All-American Team for the 2018-19 season. Among those swimmers Augustana had three make the All-American Team in Taylor Beagle, Kelsey Gilbert and Emma Miller.

Beagle capped off a great sophomore year becoming a two-time All-American with a pair of top-16 finishes at the Division II Swim and Dive Championships this past March. The Biology major is now able to add First-Team CSCAA Scholar All-American honors to her illustrious career so far. 

The award recognizes students that have achieved a grade point average of 3.50 or higher and competed at their respective NCAA/NAIA/NJCAA Swimming and Diving Championships. The selections, drawn from 190 colleges and universities across all Divisions. The Biology major has earned her self a 3.98 cumulative GPA. 

In addition to the 1,221 first-team selections, 890 students were named as Honorable Mention selections. These students have similarly achieved a GPA of 3.50 and achieved a "B" time standard or competed at an NCAA Regional or Zone Diving qualifier. In total, 282 teams placed at least one individual on the First or Second teams.

Gilbert, a Nursing major, earned CSCAA Scholar All-American Honorable Mention this past year. She was apart of the winning 800 Free Relay at the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) Swim Championships and finished runner-up to Beagle in the 1650 Free at the NSIC Swim Championships as well.

Miller was the third Viking to earn honors from the CSCAA. The Papillion, Neb. native, earned honorable mention honors during this past season after a 3.78 earning a cumulative GPA. The Biology major was also a member of the winning 800 Free Relay at the NSIC Swim Championships this past season. 

The award-winners studied a multitude of subjects ranging from A (Accounting) to Z (Zoology). Business majors accounted for just under 14% of all award-winners. They were followed by Engineering (all fields) and Biology at 9% each. Fully one-third of all award-winners are pursuing a major in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) field.
