SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – The Augustana women's basketball team looks to extend its four-game win streak at Concordia-St. Paul on Friday and at Minnesota State on Saturday in NSIC South Division action.
The Games
The Vikings square up with CSP at 5:30 p.m. in St. Paul, Minnesota, looking for revenge after being swept by the Golden Bears last season. Augustana then travels to Mankato, Minnesota, for a 3:30 p.m. contest with Minnesota State. The Vikings swept the season series with MSU in 2018-19.
The Golden Bears
Concordia-St. Paul is on a three-game skid holding a 9-9 overall record and an even 6-6 in NSIC play. Sidney Wentland and Riley Wheatcraft average 14.1 and 14.0 points per game, respectively. They are joined in double-figure scoring by Danielle Schaub and Meghan DuBois at 11.2 and 10.3 points per game, respectively. Wheatcraft is the top rebounder with five rebounds per game. CSP scores 72 points per game and gives up 71.6.
Series History: The Vikings hold the series lead at 16-13 and have won six of the last nine meetings.
The Mavericks
Minnesota State enters the weekend with a 9-7 overall record while sitting 6-6 in the NSIC. Kirstin Kltzke is the Mavericks' leading scorer at 10.6 points per game. Kristi Fett is the top rebounder for MSU at 5.8 rebounds per game. The Mavericks average 76.1 points per game while giving up 71.3. MSU has dropped four-straight contest including last weekend at Minnesota Duluth and St. Cloud State.
Series History: Augustana leads the series 49-28 including nine-straight.
The Vikings
The Vikings are coming off their second weekend sweep of the NSIC season after toppling Northern State and sliding past MSU Moorhead. Augustana controlled the entire game in the 73-44 win over the Wolves and had their first come-from-behind win of the season against the Dragons. Hannah Mitby averaged 20 points and 5.5 rebounds over the two games while senior
Abby Hora tallied 12.8 points over the two games.
Mitby was named the NSIC South Division Player of the Week after her weekend and is now averaging 9.9 points per NSIC contest. Over her last five games, Mitby is averaging a team-best 15.4 points per outing, while adding 5.4 rebounds and 3.2 steals.
Hora leads the team in offensive production throughout the season at 13.1 points per contest while freshman
Lauren Sees owns an average of 10.8 points per game.
Hana Beyer is the squad's top rebounder with 5.8 rebounds per contest.
One Last Thing
Augustana is one of the best teams in the nation at taking the ball away. In fact, the Vikings are currently second in NCAA Division II for fewest turnovers (182) and fourth for fewest turnovers per game (11.4). While taking care of the ball, AU also takes the ball, swiping 11.3 steals per game, a mark that is 29
th in the nation.
