Augustana Track and Field Claims Five Victories Brookings

BROOKINGS, S.D. -- The Augustana track and field teams showed moments of greatness Friday afternoon at the SDSU DII Invitational in the Sanford-Jackrabbit Athletic Complex in Brookings, South Dakota. Overall, the women placed 2nd out of 15 teams and the men placed 4th out of 17 teams. 

The Women
The Augustana women dominated the 1,000m as the Vikings took the top seven spots in the race, all finishing within 6.05 seconds of each other. Carly Rahn took home first-place in the event with a time of 2:57.51. Patty Jo English and Emily Tromp followed closely behind with times of 2:58.84 and 2:59.76, respectively. Claire Boersma, Callin Naddy, Mia Salas and Haylee Waterfall occupied places four through seven with times of 3:00.30, 3:00.52, 3:01.86 and 3:03:56.

The Vikings had two more winners on the day as Kali Ryan took home first-place in the 600m with a time of 1:37.58 and Elizabeth Schaefer finished first in the 60m hurdles with a personal best time of 8.99. 

Other top performances for the women included Mearah Miedema's second-place finish in the high jump (1.60m/5-3) and Callie DeWitt's second-place finish in the long jump (5.29m/17-4.25). 

The Men
The Augustana men turned in two first-place finishers on the day, as well. Austin Miller won the 1,000m with a personal best time of 2:29.21 and Connor Clayton won the triple jump with a distance of 13.75m (45-1.5).

Other top performances included Blake Savey's personal best time of 1:23.22 in the 600m. Savey's time gave him a fourth-place finish in the event. Preseason Indoor Athlete of the Year Tyl Woelber continued his impressive start to the season in the 60m hurdles, high jump and long jump. Woelber placed fourth in the 60m hurdles with a personal best time of 8.40, second in the high jump with a height of 2.05m (6-8.75) and second in the long jump with a distance of 6.82m (22-4.5).

The Vikings are back in action next Friday and Saturday at the Mark Schuck Open, hosted by Minnesota State in Mankato, Minnesota.
