Women’s Basketball Travels to Upper Iowa and Winona State for Weekend

1/8/2020 10:05:00 AM

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – The Augustana women's basketball team travels for the first time of the 2020 calendar year when it plays at Upper Iowa Friday and Winona State Saturday.

The Games
The Vikings are looking to snap a four-game skid as it looks for the season sweep over Upper Iowa. Tip-off in Fayette, Iowa, on Friday is slated for 5:30 p.m. On Saturday, Augustana looks for revenge against the Warriors after Augie dropped an overtime heartbreaker to WSU in December. Opening tip in Winona, Minnesota, is at 3:30 p.m.

The Peacocks
Upper Iowa enters Friday's game holding a 2-12 overall mark and a 1-7 record in NSIC contests. The Peacocks' lone NSIC win was a 65-63 win over Concordia-St. Paul on Dec. 13. Jessica Musgrave paces the Peacock offense with 15.3 points per game. She also leads the team with 5.8 rebounds per outing. Upper Iowa averages 56 points per game while giving up 70.7, a -14.7 scoring margin.

The Warriors
Winona State enters the weekend 9-3 overall and 5-3 in league play. Prior to playing the Vikings Saturday, WSU plays host to Wayne State on Friday. Last weekend, Winona State toppled MSU Moorhead, a team that was in the national rankings earlier this season, and fell at Northern State.

Taylor Hustad is a one-stop-shop for Winona State as the team's leading scorer and rebounder. Hustad averages 13.7 points and 9.6 rebounds per game and has seven double-doubles this season. Allie Pickrain joins Hustad in double-digit scoring with 11 points per contest.

The Vikings
Augustana is 6-6 on the season while holding a 2-6 NSIC record. The Vikings narrowly fell to both Southwest Minnesota State and No. 18 Sioux Falls this past weekend. First, Augustana made a frantic comeback in the fourth quarter to erase a 15-point deficit to SMSU but ultimately fell short in the 60-55 setback. Against Sioux Falls, the Vikings led for nearly 30 minutes before falling short to the Cougars by four points.

Sophomore Vishe' Rabb, who has missed the last four games due to injury, leads the team with 14.2 points per game. Senior Abby Hora is the active leader in points per game at 13.3 while owning the team lead with 23 assists this year. Freshman Lauren Sees is the third Viking in double-figure scoring at 12.1 points per outing. Senior Hana Beyer leads the team with 5.3 rebounds per contest.

One Last Thing
Augustana is good at handling the ball. The Vikings rank third in the nation for fewest turnovers with 133 while ranking fifth in the country with an average of 11.1 turnovers per game. While also taking care of the ball, the Vikings also take the ball, swiping 10.6 steals per game. Hora leads the team with 2.0 steals per contest, a mark that ranks third in the NSIC.
