Augustana Takes Home Seven First-Place Titles in Mankato

MANKATO, Minn. -- The Augustana track and field teams continued their winning ways this weekend at the Mark Schuck Open inside Myers Fieldhouse in Mankato, Minnesota. Overall, the women took home first place in three events while the men took home first place in four events. 

The Women
The Vikings started strong in the pentathlon with defending national champion Olivia Montez Brown taking home first-place with 3,638 points, a provisional NCAA qualifying mark. Montez Brown took first in the 60m hurdles (8.88), tied for fourth in the high jump (1.54m, 5-¾), first in the shot put (11.19m, 36-8 ½), first in the long jump (5.61m, 18-4 ¾) and first in the 800m (2:29.68). Elizabeth Schaefer and Kaye Paschka took home second and fifth-place in the event with 3,474 and 3,066 points, respectively. Schaefer also hit the NCAA provisional qualifying mark. 

Sydney Mudgett took home the women's next victory with a season-best time of 1:37.82 in the 600m. Maria Hoogendorn placed seventh in the event with a time of 1:42.82. Kali Ryan followed Mudgett's victory with a win of her own in the 800m with a season-best time of 2:18.21.

In the mile, Augustana placed four runners in the top ten with Patty Jo English at 5th (5:05.63), Claire Boersma at 6th (5:06.47), Mia Salas at 7th (5:07.06) and Nicolette Schmidt at 8th (5:08.14). 

Mearah Miedema continued her impressive start to the indoor season with a second-place finish in the high jump with a distance of 1.63m (5-4.25). Selin Dikmen followed up Miedema's performance with a runner-up finish of her own in the 60m hurdles with a time of 8.95. 

Other top performances included Callie DeWitt taking home fourth-place with a time of 7.72 in the 60m, Kaitlyn Mulder taking second-place in the 400m with a time of 59.87 and Kaly Banks placing second in the triple jump with a personal best jump of 11.23m (36-10.25). 

The women finished the day by placing third in the 4x400 meter relay race with a time of 4:02.17 ran by Kali Ryan, Sydney Mudgett, Kaitlyn Mulder and Mariah Beckius.  

The Men
Tyl Woelber took home the men's first victory of the day when he placed first in the long jump with a season-best distance of 6.93m (22-8.75). In the 600m, Bonheur Mvuyekure captured the Vikings' next win with a personal best time of 1:22.50. 

Austin Miller, who won the 1,000m race last weekend in Brookings, took home first place in the 800m with a personal best and conference-best time of 1:54.00.

The men's last victory of the day came in the 4x400 meter relay race when Lawrence Lokonobei, Tyl Woelber, Bonheur Mvuyekure and Tiegen Lindner combined for a time of 3:26.26. Augustana also had two other relay teams place in the top-five with Alex Woods, Ryan Sully, Blake Savey and Austin Miller taking home second and Jed Dooyema, Noah Melton, Matthew Schoessow and Jesus Urtusuastegui taking home fifth. 

Augustana placed four athletes in the top-seven in the 400m with Alex Woods leading the way in third place (50.97), Ryan Sully taking fifth (51.10), Noah Melton taking sixth (51.86) and Jed Dooyema taking seventh (51.93).

The Vikings also had three more athletes finish in the top-10 in the 800m. Tiegen Lindner in fifth-place with a personal best time of 1:57.47, Evan Johnson in sixth place with a time of 1:58.00 and Jonah Breuer in ninth-place with a personal best time of 2:01.71.

Other top performances included Evan Johnson placing second in the mile with a time of 4:20.83, Lawrence Lokonobei placing fourth in the 60-meter hurdles with a personal best time of 8.41, Blake Savey finishing in fourth in the 600m with a time of 1:24.29, Jesus Urtusuastegui taking home second place in the 1000m with a time of 2:36.54, Connor Clayton placing second in the triple jump with a distance of 13.62m (44-8.25) and Matt Pohlmann taking home third-place in the pole vault with a season-best distance of 4.40m (14-5.25).
