MANKATO, Minn. -- The Augustana track and field teams impressed on day one of the NSIC Championships at Myers Field House in Mankato, Minnesota. The women claimed three top-three finishers on the day and are currently in second-place with 39.66 team points while the men had four top-three finishers and are also in second with 37 team points.

"It was a great first day for our teams at the NSIC Championships," head coach Tracy Hellman said. "Both teams are in great position but we need to finish it out. It will be a battle but our teams are motivated and excited to compete."

The Women
The day started with a record-breaking performance from the women's distance medley relay team. Carly Rahn, Mariah Beckius, Emily Tromp and Patty Jo English took first place in the event while breaking the NSIC record with an NCAA Provisional qualifying time of 11:51.62. They beat the previous record of 12:01.42, held by Minnesota-Duluth, by more than nine seconds.

The other top-three finishers for the Viking women came in the 5K. Nicolette Schmidt took second in the event with a time of 17:17.21 and Rebekah Rairdon took third with a time of 17:32.16. Both times are provisional marks.

The Men
The men's distance medley relay team also started the day off with a record-breaking performance. Austin Miller, Tiegen Lindner, Ryan Sully and Evan Johnson broke the NSIC record, set last year, with a time of 10:05.87 but were edged out by the first-place finisher by just .98 seconds. The time for the Viking men was also a provisional qualifying time.

Tyl Woelber got the men their next top-three finish with a personal best distance of 7.22m (23-8.25) in the long jump. Woelber also leads the heptathlon going into day two with 3,139 points. His heptathlon events include a second-place finish in the 60 meter dash (7.26), first-place finish in the long jump with a distance of 6.80m (22-3.75), first-place finish in the shot put with a personal best distance of 12.96m (42-6.25) and first-place finish in the high jump with a personal best height of 2.12m (6-11.5). Woelber's high jump mark also broke the school record, set by him earlier this season.

The men finished the day taking two of the top-three spots in the 5K. Aaron Runge took home first-place in the event with a provisional time of 14:39.39 followed closely by Jesus Urtusuastegui, who took third-place with a provisional time of 14:39.80.
