SIOUX FALLS, S.D. -- After qualifying for nationals, Tyl Woelber, Olivia Montez Brown, Austin Miller, Elizabeth Schaefer and Carly Rahn are heading to Birmingham, Alabama, this weekend to represent the Vikings at the NCAA Division II Indoor Track and Field Championships.
"We are excited to see our athletes compete in the NCAA Indoor Championships this weekend," head coach Tracy Hellman said. "The five athletes are motivated and focused to finish indoor with a great effort. The athletes competing have had an outstanding season up to this point, and we are optimistic for a great finish."
The Event
The University of Montevallo and the City of Birmingham are set to host the championships this Friday and Saturday at the Birmingham CrossPlex.
Tyl Woelber is set to compete in the heptathlon and high jump. The heptathlon is scheduled to start at 10 a.m. on Friday and Saturday at 10:45 a.m. while the high jump is set for 4:35 p.m. Austin Miller will run the 800m prelim Friday at 4:40 p.m. The finals for the event are on Saturday at 5:10 p.m.
Defending national champion Olivia Montez Brown and Elizabeth Schaefer will compete in the pentathlon on Saturday starting at 10:30 a.m. Montez Brown also qualified for the 60 meter hurdles which take place Friday at 3 p.m. (prelims) and Saturday at 3:50 p.m. (finals). Carly Rahn will compete in the 800m which is set for 4:55 p.m. Friday (prelims) and 5:20 p.m. Saturday (finals).

The Athletes
Olivia Montez Brown - Sr. - Chester, Cheshire, England
The NSIC Preseason Field Athlete of the Year is set to defend her 2019 national championship in the pentathlon. Last season, Montez Brown won the title while setting the Augustana school record with 3,915 points in the event. This season, the senior won the pentathlon at the Mark Schuck Open on Feb. 1 with 3,638 points. Recently at the NSIC Championships, Montez Brown placed second in the event with a season-best 3,682 points. The mark is currently the seventh-best in the country.
In the 60-meter hurdles, Montez Brown owns the 13th best time in the country with an 8.63 (just .01 away from her personal best), which she ran at the SDSU Holiday Invite on Dec. 6. She also placed first in the event at the NSIC Indoor Challenge and NSIC Championships with times of 8.79 and 8.74, respectively.
Tyl Woelber - So. - Pipestone, Minnesota
Woelber was named the NSIC Indoor Field Athlete of the Year this season just days after being named the High Point Performer at the NSIC Championships. The sophomore shattered Augustana's previous heptathlon record by over 100 points, held by himself, and took home first place in the event at the NSIC Championships with a point total of 5,357. The score is currently the seventh-best in the country. He also won the event earlier in the season at the Bison Open on Feb. 8.
In the high jump at the NSIC Championships, Woelber's height of 2.12m (6-11.5) broke the Augustana school record, also held by himself, and gave him the eighth-best jump in the country.
Austin Miller - Sr. - Sioux Falls, South Dakota
Sioux Falls native Austin Miller won the 800 meter at the NSIC Championships with a personal-best time of 1:51.78. The time is also the eighth fastest in the country. Miller has dominated in the 800 meter this season, taking home first place in the event at the Mark-Schuck Open on Feb. 1, NSIC Indoor Challenge on Feb. 15 and Maverick Invitational on Feb. 21.
Carly Rahn - Jr. - Ames, Iowa
Rahn ran a 2:12.13 in the 800 meter at the NSIC Championships to give her second-place honors and the 11th-fastest time in the country. The junior also won the 800-meter run at the Bison Open on Feb. 8 and NSIC Indoor Challenge on Feb. 15.
Elizabeth Schaefer - Fr. - Rapid City, South Dakota
Schaefer enjoyed a fantastic indoor campaign, culminating in an NSIC Championship in the pentathlon with a score of 3,692 points. The mark was her best of the season and is currently sixth in the country. The freshman also placed fifth in the event in her college debut at the SDSU Holiday Invite on Dec. 6 and second at the Mark Schuck Open on Feb. 1.
One Last Thing
Athletes who finish in the top-eight of their respective individual events will take home First-Team All-American honors, while those placing ninth through 12th will be named Second-Team All-Americans.
