BURNSVILLE, Minn. -- Augustana's Tyl Woelber is the NSIC Indoor Field Athlete of the Year the league office announced Thursday. The sophomore was previously announced as the Preseason Field Athlete of the Year.
Woelber receives the honor just days after being named the High Point Performer at the NSIC Championships. At the championships, Woelber shattered Augustana's previous heptathlon record by over 100 points, held by himself from earlier this season, and took home first place in the event with 5,357 points.
In the heptathlon, Woelber placed first in the long jump, high jump and shot put and second in the 60-meter hurdles. His heptathlon score is the seventh-best in the country and qualified him for the NCAA Championships in the event.
His high jump mark in the heptathlon, 2.12m (6-11.5), also broke the Augustana school record held by himself from earlier this season and qualified him for nationals in the event as it is currently the eighth-best mark in the country. The sophomore broke his third school record at the NSIC Championships in the triple jump with a distance of 14.51m (47-7.25).
Throughout the season, Woelber has earned first-place titles in the long jump at the Mark Schuck Open, Heptathlon at the Bison Open and triple jump at the NSIC Indoor Challenge.
The Pipestone, Minnesota, native is now set to head down to Birmingham, Alabama, from Mar. 13 - 14 to compete in the NCAA Division II Indoor Track and Field Championships.
