AUSTIN, Texas - Augustana senior outfielder Riley Johnson has been voted to the 2020 CoSIDA Academic All-America Division II Baseball First Team, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

Johnson currently has a 3.51 GPA while majoring in mathematics at Augustana.

Despite the cancellation of spring competition during COVID-19, CoSIDA continued its sponsorship of the Academic All-America awards program with student-athletes selected based on career statistics. Overall, 34 athletes were selected to the three teams with Johnson being one of 11 on the first team and the only NSIC athlete on any of the teams.

Johnson, a National Champion from the 2018 season, has started 186 games in his career for Augustana and holds a .363 batting average with 261 hits, 192 runs scored, 35 doubles, seven triples, nine homers and 115 RBIs. On the basepaths, he is 81-for-93 in stolen base attempts and holds a .985 fielding percentage in the outfield with errorless seasons in 2018 and 2020.

Before the COVID-19 pandemic ended the 2020 season, Johnson was set to rewrite the Augustana career record book. The senior ranks eighth in games started (16 behind first-place), second in at bats (11 behind first-place), third in runs scored (13 behind first-place), third in hits (24 behind first-place) and second in stolen bases (eight behind first-place).

During the shortened 2020 season, Johnson was hitting .340 with 16 hits, two homers and eight RBIs in 13 games.

Johnson becomes the first Viking baseball player to take home CoSIDA First Team Academic All-America honors since Jacob Blank did it in 2017 and 2018. He also becomes the ninth Viking baseball player to take home the award and the fifth under head coach Tim Huber
