Augustana Wrestling falls at South Dakota State

BROOKINGS, S.D.—The Augustana wrestling team  began its dual season at South Dakota State with AU seeing three victories in the 34-10 team loss. Augustana begins its season 0-1 in dual action. South Dakota State, of the NCAA Division I Big 12 conference, opens its dual season 1-0.

Junior Jack Huffman logged the first Viking win of the night in the 133-pound bout, defeating SDSU's Trayton Anderson by way of 10-4 decision. Three takedowns and two points for a near fall earned Huffman eight points, and two escape points and brought his total score to 10.

Sophomore Cade Mueller defeated Marshall Hauck of South Dakota State by a 5-0 decision to earn three team points for Augustana. Mueller recorded an escape and a takedown to earn three points in his match and he was awarded a penalty point, all in the third period. Mueller earned a point for riding time in a dominant win. 

Junior Kolby Kost, competing at 184 pounds for Augustana, defeated his opponent from South Dakota State by major decision. Kost recorded Augustana's last victory of the night with two escapes, four takedowns, two penalty points and a reversal.
