Augustana Women’s Basketball Set for NSIC Weekend; Nonconference Tilt Monday

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. -- The Augustana women's basketball team has three games remaining in the 2021 calendar year, the Vikings have a weekend showdown against Upper Iowa and Winona State. 

Upper Iowa's contest is on Friday slated for 7:30 p.m. Winona State's game will be played on Saturday at 5:30 p.m.

The Vikings return to the Sanford Pentagon on Monday to host Dakota Wesleyan in nonconference action to round out play for 2021, the game is slated for 7 p.m.

The Peacocks

Upper Iowa is 2-8 this year and 0-5 within the NSIC. Most recently the Peacocks defeated nonconference foe Crown College, 100-51. In the game, Brooke Evenson had a double-double garnering 20 points and 10 rebounds.

Lydia Haack, the leading scorer for the Peacocks, is averaging 15.1 points per game on 44.9 percent shooting. She also leads UIU in assists per game with 4.2 per outing.

The Warriors

Winona State, after starting the season 4-0, is on a five-game losing streak. Last time out, the Warriors dropped road contests coming against SMSU (69-64) and Sioux Falls (74-54). 

The Warriors are shooting 43.2 percent from the field this season and averaged 5.1 3-pointers per game.

Winona State has two players averaging double-figure scoring, led by Taylor Hustad with 12 points per outing with Emma Fee contributing 10.7 points per contest. Coincidently, Hustad and Fee also garner the most boards for the Warriors with 6.9 and 6.4 rebounds per outing, respectively.

The Tigers

Dakota Wesleyan is 10-2 with a GPAC record of 4-2. Additionally, the Tigers are on a seven-game win streak. Most recently, DWU defeated No. 22 Dordt 80-75.

Matti Reiner leads the Tigers in scoring, averaging 13.3 points per game on 41.9 percent shooting. Kaylee Kirk leads DWU in rebounding with 6.9 per contest. She also leads the team in assists garnering 4.9 per outing while averaging a team-high 35 minutes per game. 

The Tigers will have three more games under their belt before facing Augustana playing South Dakota State, Presentation and Dickinson State this week.

The Vikings

Augustana is 3-5 with an NSIC record of 0-5. Most recently, the Vikings had two tough breaks, falling to Minnesota State in overtime on Friday night and was three points shy of defeating Concordia-St. Paul on Saturday.

On Friday night, the Vikings had a convincing showing with career-highs from two players. Aislinn Duffy scored 28 points while grabbing 21 rebounds, one rebound shy of tying the single-game record, both feats are career-highs. 

Additionally, Jennifer Aadland scored 19 points while grabbing 16 rebounds to elevate her career-highs in both statistical categories. The performance marks the third double-double of her career.

Duffy returned Saturday night and garnered another double-double, having 25 points, on 50 percent shooting, and 14 rebounds to lead the Vikings in both categories. 

One Last Thing

Kenzie Rensch is second in the nation for steals per game averaging 4.43 steals per contest. She is also ranked third in total steals having 31 this season, comparatively, Rensch had 17 steals in 17 contests last season.
