Luke Fritsch is a two-time Second Team All-America selection as announced by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Friday morning. Joining Weber and Fritsch is
T.J. Liggett who earns his first Academic All-America honor as a member of the second team.
The Division II Academic All-America program is being financially supported by the NCAA Division II national governance structure to assist CoSIDA with handling the awards fulfillment aspects for the 2021-22 Division II Academic All-America teams program.
Weber, hailing from Dawson, Minnesota, is the fourth Viking all-time to be a multiple first-team selection. He owns a 3.69 GPA while earning his degree in nursing. On the football field, he was a First Team All-NSIC South Division honoree while starting all 12 games of the season at defensive back. In the 11 regular-season games, he racked up 57 tackles, seven tackles for loss and 2.5 sacks. In addition, he intercepted a pair of passes.
A Sioux Falls native, Fritsch is a biology major with a 3.4 GPA. He played in all 12 contests for the NSIC Champion Vikings while recording 29 tackles and two sacks in the regular season. He garnered his first-career sack in the Vikings' win at UMary on Sept. 11 and followed up with his second in the win against Winona State. He also recorded an interception in the win at Minnesota State.
Liggett, holding a 3.9 GPA in computer science, earns his first Academic All-America accolade. The Rosemount, Minnesota, native ended the season as the Vikings' leading tackler with 85 tackles. The starter of all 12 games, he had 78 tackles in the 11 regular-season games while earning First Team All-NSIC South Division accolades. He was credited with four quarterback hurries and four pass breakups and totaled 9.5 tackles for loss.
The trio ties the mark for the most Academic All-America honors the Vikings have received in a single season, also achieved in 1977 and 2017. The football program now totals 29 Academic All-America honors.
