PITTSBURG, KS. -- Both the women's and men's distance medley relays had a big day Friday with both running well under the provisional times for the NCAA Championships to be held later this season in Birmingham, Alabama.
The women set the tone by hitting a provisional mark, placing second in the race. The leadoff running the 1,200m leg was sophomore Patty Jo English, who handed off to senior Sydney Mudgett for the 400m leg, sophomore Callin Naddy ran the 800m leg before handing off to the anchor leg in junior Nicolette Schmidt. The Vikings completed the relay in a time of 11:39.08 to claim second place in the race.
The men followed the women's footsteps by turning out a provisional performance as well. The relay was ledoff by senior Austin Miller handing off in first to junior Noah Melton for the 400m leg. Senior Tiegen Lindner ran the 800m leg and handed off to junior Evan Johnson to run the final leg for the Vikings. Augustana placed third in the relay in a time of 9:55.65.
The relay personnel will return to action tomorrow racing individual events at the Ichabod Invitational hosted by Washburn University in Topeka, Kansas.
