BROOKINGS, S.D. -- The Augustana track & field teams closed out their last regular season meet at the SDSU Last Chance Meet with a bang, coming home with 19 marks currently being within the top-10 in the conference this year.
The Women
The women's side showed a lot of depth with multiple top spots being taken by the Vikings.
The 600m featured performances by freshman Caroline Sudbeck and senior Sydney Mudgett taking the top-two spots in the race with times of 1:35.11 and 1:36.06, respectively. The times are good for third and fifth amongst the conference field.
Sophomore Cami Streff took second in the 800m in a time of 2:16.23, followed closely by junior Callin Naddy in 2:16.75, the two times are sixth and ninth in the conference, respectively.
The 1000m featured four Vikings and all four times would rank within the top-ten in the conference. Leading the way was sophomore Patty Jo English running a time of 2:57.76, second place was junior Nicolette Schimdt, and taking third was junior Haylee Waterfall. Freshman Mallory Delmont rounded out the quartet in a time of 2:59.08.
In the mile, the Vikings took three of the top five spots with sophomore Mia Salas leading the charge running through the line in a time of 4:58.08, followed closely by Rachel Rairdon and Rebekah Rairdon running 4:58.95 and 5:00.25, respectively. The trio's times hold spots sixth through eighth in the conference this year.
The Men
Three provisional marks highlighted the men's team. The distance medley relay of Austin Miller, Ryan Sully, Tiegen Lindner and Evan Johnson lowered the current time run last week in Kansas, claiming the victory Saturday in an NCAA Provisional time of 9:54.91 which currently holds the 11th spot in the nation.
Sophomore Lawrence Lokonobei lowered his time in the 60 hurdles running 8.09 to put him at seventh in the nation in the event. The 8.09 is also a provisional qualifying time.
Freshman Colten Brand also ran a provisional time with his mark coming in the mile. He claimed the victory in a time of 4:10.93.
Other top performances were from sophomore Matthew Schoessow in the 600m winning the event in a time of 1:23.29, good for fifth in the conference.
Miller won the 800m in a time of 1:53.06, a time that ranks third in the conference this year.
Freshman Ryan Hartman won the 1000m in a time of 2:32.44 and also placed fifth in the mile in a time of 4:16.93, his times are fourth and seventh in the conference, respectively.
The Augustana track & field teams will return to action next week for the NSIC Championships in Mankato, Minnesota on Feb. 26 and 27.
