Augustana Baseball Earns No. 23 Preseason Ranking in NCBWA Poll

2/3/2021 3:28:00 PM

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. -- Heading into the 2021 season as NSIC favorites, the Augustana baseball team has also been ranked No. 23 in the Preseason NCBWA Division II Baseball poll. Augustana is also the only NSIC team in the top-25 while also being selected fourth in the central region.

Coach Huber and the Augustana baseball team brought in 11 newcomers to the 2021 squad to push the roster to 44 members. The Vikings return a large majority of starters on the mound and in the field with a veteran roster comprised of nine seniors and nine juniors. Senior Max Steffens and junior Jordan Barth, the NSIC Preseason Pitcher and Player of the Year, will play big roles in leading the Vikings this season.

Projected to finish first in the NSIC last season, the Vikings found success in 2020 despite the season being cut short due to COVID-19 pandemic. Augustana went 9-4, including two wins over then-No. 21 Arkansas Monticello and a three-game road sweep of Southwest Baptist. Jordan Barth hit safely in all 13 games and was named NSIC Player of the Week and NCBWA Central Region Player of the Week when the Vikings swept Southwest Baptist. Tanner Brown also earned NSIC Pitcher of the Week honors with his win against Arkansas Monticello.

The Vikings return to the baseball diamond on March 5 in Lawton, Oklahoma, for their season opener against Cameron University. First pitch is slated for 2 p.m.
