SIOUX FALLS, S.D. -- The Augustana women's basketball team takes to the road to face Southwest Minnesota State in Marshall, Minnesota, on Friday and Saturday. Friday's game is slated for 6 p.m. and Saturday's game will begin at 2 p.m.
About the Vikings
Last week, the Vikings pulled off its first weekend sweep of the season, defeating Upper Iowa 82-39 Friday night and doubled back Saturday to win 92-42. Augustana is now 6-4 and 4-2 in the loop.
Everything that could go in favor of the Vikings did on Saturday as they shot over 50 percent from the field and poured in 13 3-pointers.
The hot-shooting afternoon was complemented by lock-down defense, with Augustana recording 11 steals and three blocks as a team as well as forcing 17 turnovers.
Saturday's Senior Night proved to be a good one for the two seniors as Hannah Mitby had 14 points to go along with nine rebounds, six assists and five steals. Izzy Van Veldhuizen shot 60 percent from the field, knocking down three triples to give her 16 points on the evening. She also grabbed eight boards and dished out three assists.
Van Veldhuizen leads the Vikings in scoring at 15.2 per contest while sophomore Aislinn Duffy leads with 6.6 rebounds per game.
About the Mustangs
Southwest Minnesota State is 6-2 overall and 4-2 in NSIC play. The Mustangs are led by fifth-year head coach Tom Webb.
Last week, the Mustangs split against CSP, winning Saturday night 58-50 and falling short on Sunday 68-63.
On Sunday, the Mustangs had three players scoring in double figures, leading the way was Jenna Borchers with 15 points.
Meleah Reinhart leads the Mustangs in points, averaging 14.5 per contest, Abuk Akoi leads the team in rebounds with 7.3 per game.
Akoi's name may sound familiar as she is the sister to Augustana men's basketball freshman, Akoi Akoi.
