FARGO, N.D. -- Junior Tyl Woelber claimed victory in the heptathlon Saturday in Fargo, North Dakota, to close out the Bison Open that began Friday.
Woelber won the heptathlon with event victories in the high jump, five runner-up finishes and a fourth place finish to complete the event. His total score was 5,334 points, which won the event, and is an NCAA Provisional Qualifying mark, just 74 points shy of an auto qualifier.
The second day had the 60m hurdles, the 1,000m and the pole vault. Woelber claimed two runner-up performances in the 60m hurdles and the 1,000m, running times of 8.59 and 2:53.82, respectively. He also tied for fourth in the pole vault, leaping 13-03.5.
Woelber's point total from the weekend currently sits him at fourth in the nation and atop the NSIC.
Freshman Muse Abdi debuted in the heptathlon, coming away with an 11th place finish in the event with a score of 4,113 points. Abdi won the 60m portion of the heptathlon in 7.11 for 844 points.
Augustana returns to competition next week at the SDSU Indoor Classic in Brookings, South Dakota.
