Augustana Track & Field Completes Day Two at Drake Relays

Woelber wins Kip Janvrin High Jump and Javelin

DES MOINES, Iowa -- The Augustana track & field divided and conquered at both the Drake Relays and the Kip Janvrin Open on Friday. 

Drake Relays

Augustana had multiple high placing relays on day two of Drake Relays highlighted by the men's sprint medley relay where the Vikings narrowly missed obtaining Drake Relay flags. The relay team of Connor Clayton, Melik Davis, Ryan Sully, and Austin Miller placed second in a time of 3:27.58 with Oklahoma Baptist getting the nod in 3:27.54.

The women's 4x800m relay of Cami Streff, Caroline Sudbeck, Kali Ryan, and Meagan Schenk took bronze running a time of 9:15.64.

The men's 4x800m relay team of Evan Johnson, Ryan Hartman, Tiegen Lindner, and Miller claimed silver in a time of 7:36.60.

Senior Sydney Mudgett narrowly missed her personal-best in the open 400m running a time of 57.91 to place ninth in the event.

Selin Dikmen returns for the 100m hurdle finals on Saturday after running 15.16 in the preliminary round.

Kip Janvrin Open

Junior Tyl Woelber had a field day with a victory in the high jump, going 6-6, and also won the javelin throw with a heave of 181-02. He also had a runner-up performance in the long jump with a leap of 22-03.5.

Noah Melton had a third-place finish in the quarter-mile running a personal-best time of 49.47.

Freshman Noa Marteau made her 400m-hurdle debut running a time of 1:03.64 to finish second in the event.

In the men's 5,000m, Colten Brand led the way for the Vikings with a third-place finish running a time of 14:29.77. Matt Steiger and Kray Person placed seventh and ninth in times of 14:40.61 and 14:43.80, respectively.

In the women's 5,000m Haylee Waterfall ran a time of 17:23.93 to place second in the event. Freshman Taylor Melton eclipsed the 18:00 barrier running 17:51.02 to place sixth. Three additional Vikings in Cait Savey, Ana McCabe, and Mariah Haight rounded out seventh through ninth place running times of 18:01.65, 18:02.21, and 18:05.22, respectively.

Callin Naddy made her steeplechase debut running a time of 11:08.44 to finish second in the race. She was followed closely by Claire Boersma who placed third in 11:17.55.

The Vikings conclude their weekend of competition on the final day of the Drake Relays.
