Ryan Jares Named NSIC Pitcher of the Week

BURNSVILLE, Minn. -- Sophomore righty Ryan Jares has earned NSIC Pitcher of the Week honors the conference office announced Tuesday morning. The news breaks after Jares dominated the No. 11 nationally-ranked Minnesota State Mavericks last Wednesday.

After watching senior lefty Koby Bishop toss a complete-game seven-inning shutout in a 1-0 victory in game one of the Vikings' doubleheader with the Mavericks, Jares responded in game two with a masterpiece of his own.

The sophomore twirled a nine-inning complete-game shutout in game two with just four hits allowed compared to 14 strikeouts. The shutout propelled Augustana to a 7-0 win and a doubleheader sweep of the Mavericks.

On the season, Jares is now 4-1 with a 1.94 ERA and 71 strikeouts in 46.1 innings pitched. His 71 strikeouts are tied for third most in the conference while his 1.94 ERA is also tied for third best in the NSIC with the aforementioned Bishop.

Jares and the rest of the Vikings are back in action Friday with a doubleheader against Upper Iowa in Fayette, Iowa.
