Ryan Jares Named NCBWA National Pitcher of the Week

DALLAS -- Two days after earning NSIC Pitcher of the Week honors, sophomore righty Ryan Jares is adding more accolades to his impressive 2021 campaign. This time, the sophomore has been named the NCBWA National Pitcher of the Week.

Jares, hailing from Windsor, Colorado, took the mound in Augustana's game-two tilt against the then No. 11-ranked Mavericks of Minnesota State on April 28. Jares responded with sheer dominance and twirled a 128-pitch nine-inning shutout while striking out 14 and surrendering just four hits.

The shutout propelled the Vikings to a 7-0 win and a doubleheader sweep of Minnesota State.

On the season, Jares is now 4-1 with a 1.94 ERA and 71 strikeouts in 46.1 innings pitched. His 71 strikeouts are tied for third-most in the conference while his 1.94 ERA is tied for fourth.

Jares and the rest of the Vikings are back in action Friday and Saturday for a three-game series with Upper Iowa.
