SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – Augustana baseball's
Christian Kuzemka has become the fifth Viking to sign a professional contract in 2021 as he recently agreed to terms with the Schaumburg Boomers of the Frontier League. Having five members sign a pro contract matches a high set by the 2018 national championship team.
Â
Kuzemka had a solid season with the Vikings in 2021 while earning NSIC All-Tournament Team honors. For the year, he hit .335 with 32 runs scored, 56 hits, 10 doubles and seven home runs. He also recorded five steals while driving in 45 RBI.
Â
"I had a good idea Christian would get an opportunity at some point," Augustana head coach
Tim Huber said. "He is such a big, strong guy, and works really hard. It is pretty cool for him to get a chance to play in a good league back home."
Â
The native of Wasco, Illinois, also spent time at Chicago State and Nova Southeastern prior to his time at Augustana.
Â
The Boomers are the division leaders in the Frontier League while holding a 30-23 record, 4.5 games in first place.
Â
As the fifth player to sign a professional contract from the 2021 roster, Kuzemka joins
Sam Baier,
Koby Bishop,
Parker Hanson and
Max Steffens as pros under Huber. In all, Huber has now coached 25 players that have gone on to play professional baseball.
