BROOKINGS, S.D. – The Augustana track & field teams amassed six top-10 marks to start the New Year on the right foot at the D2 Invitational in Brookings, South Dakota, on Friday.
The women's team accounted for four top-ten marks while the men had two.
"It was a solid first meet for our crew," director of track & field/cross country Tracy Hellman said. "We had some bright spots but the most important thing is that we will continue to grow and get better as the season progresses.
"It was a good first step and we are ready for our next opportunity."
NSIC Preseason Athlete of the Year Tyl Woelber had a runner-up finish in the long jump saving his best jump for last, leaping 22-11.75 leaving his mark in Augustana history moving up to No. 3 on the all-time list.
Woelber also competed in the 60m hurdles, advancing to the finals with his time of 8.43. Freshman Andrew Martens followed closely, running 8.44 in the prelims.
Martens placed sixth in the event, running 8.48 in the finals.
Freshman Kylee Sallee, competing in her second meet as a Viking, placed fifth in the long jump with her fourth-attempt leap of 18-00.50. Her mark puts her at No. 7 on Augustana's all-time list.
Freshman Nyanas Kur, making her collegiate debut for Augustana, cracked the top-ten list not once but twice, coming in the 60m and the 200m. Kur placed fourth in the 60m final, bettering her 7.93 by running 7.86 to mark her fifth on Augustana's top-ten list.Â
Ella Heinitz joined Kur on the top-10 indoor list with her 7.88 time, which placed her fifth in the race along with seventh within Augustana's top-10 best times.
Kur returned in the 200m, placing fifth overall, running a time of 25.42 to etch her No. 4 on Augustana's top-ten performer list.
Ryan Hartman, making his indoor season debut, won the 1,000m running a time of 2:27.11, winning by over half a second. His time marks him No. 4 on Augustana's performance list.
