Viking Swimming & Diving Breaks Open Record Books at Augustana Invitational

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. - The Augustana swimming & diving teams had a very successful Augustana Invitational highlighted by an NCAA 'A' cut, multiple NCAA 'B' cuts, in addition to multiple broken school records and a compilation of personal bests.

Overall, the No. 10 Viking women placed third with 1065 points. The Viking men also placed third with 1034 points. Augustana placed the highest among Division II, Division III, and NJCAA competitors at the Augustana Invitational. The South Dakota women grasped first place followed by South Dakota State, while the men of South Dakota State placed first followed by South Dakota. 

Bryn Greenwaldt etched her name in the Augustana school record books while also grasping an NCAA 'A' cut in the 50 free swimming in a time of 22.53. The 'A' cut is the first in Augustana swimming & diving history. Greenwaldt garnered four school records over the three-day period, marking her name atop the record books in the 50 free, 100 free, 50 back, and 100 back. 

Mason Kauffeld dominated the pool for the men, taking home three school records in the 100 and 200 breast as well as the 200 IM. His best race was in the 200 breast with a third place finish during the finals. 

Augustana diving saw multiple school records broken through Kate Robbins and Caden Kavanaugh. Robbins accomplished a career milestone by advancing to the diving finals on the first day of the invitational. She placed seventh with a score of 217.25 in the 3 meter dive in the finals. Kavanaugh broke the men's school record with a finals score of 211.95 in the 1 meter dive.

The Augustana Invitational wraps up the first half of the season for the Vikings, a season that has seen the No. 10 ranked women swim to a 17-3 record in duals.

The two squads are back in action Jan. 19 with the men dueling Omaha while the women will compete against Omaha and Sioux Falls at the Midco Aquatic Center.
