No. 24 Viking Women’s Hoops Set for Weekend Tilt

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. -- The No. 24 Augustana women's basketball squad is set for a weekend tilt against Southwest Minnesota State and Sioux Falls. The Vikings travel to SMSU on Thursday to take on the Mustangs at 5:30 p.m. then the Vikings will host its cross-town foe of Sioux Falls Saturday at 3:30 p.m. in the Sanford Pentagon.

Scouting the Mustangs
SMSU heads into this week's contest 4-1 following a win over Sioux Falls, 72-59, last Tuesday. The Mustangs are currently on a four-game win streak with their last loss taking place against Nebraska-Kearney, 67-57, during their second week of competition. 

The Mustangs are led by Bri Stoltzman averaging 14.7 points per game. Stoltzman aids the SMSU defense by leading the team in rebounds averaging 7.0 a game and has collected 42 boards so far this season. She also leads the team in steals averaging 2.0 a game as well as assists averaging 3.3 a contest. 

Scouting the Cougars
Sioux Falls enters this weekend 3-4 following a win against Flagler, 74-57, at the Bahama House Shootout this weekend. The Cougars are currently 0-1 in the NSIC with their sole loss to the Mustangs of SMSU, 72-59. 

The Cougars are led in scoring by Megan Fannin averaging 10.4 points per game totaling 73 points so far this season. Madison Birnbaum leads the Sioux Falls defense garnering 4.6 rebounds per game totaling 32 so far this season. 

The Vikings
Augustana heads into this weekend's contest 6-0 after topping the Tigers of Dakota Wesleyan, 89-66, and the Eagles of Chadron State, 71-33. The 6-0 start for the Vikings is the longest undefeated record to begin a season since 2017-18 when the Vikings went 14-0 at the beginning of the season and finished with a 29-4 overall record. Currently, Augustana is one of 26 teams to remain undefeated this year.

The recently coined NSIC South Division Player of the Week, Aislinn Duffy, leads the Vikings in scoring with 19.4 points per game while also leading the squad in rebounds averaging 9.0 a contest. Duffy is the current NSIC leader in assists with 4.4, while also ranking third in the league in scoring and rebounds. 

Kenzie Rensch continues to lead the NSIC in totals steals with 20 and steals per game averaging 3.3 a contest.  Rensch saw 11 total steals in the past three games, she also follows second to Duffy's 14 assists with nine. 

One Last Thing
The Vikings have out-rebounded five out of their six opponents so far this season. The Vikings have totaled 35 or more rebounds a game so far this season while seeing a season high 52 rebounds against Briar Cliff on Nov. 19.
