Viking Women’s Hoops Travels to Sioux Falls Thursday; hosts SMSU Saturday

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – The Augustana women's basketball team faces a Thursday-Saturday weekend schedule as the Vikings face crosstown foe, Sioux Falls, on Thursday and return to the Sanford Pentagon on Saturday to host SMSU. 

Thursday's contest is slated for a 5:30 p.m. tipoff, while Saturday's tilt is set for 3:30 p.m.

Saturday's contest will serve as Senior Day and Alumni Night.

About the Cougars

Sioux Falls is 14-11 overall with a 9-9 NSIC standing. The Cougars have won one of their last six, most recently splitting a weekend of contests. On Friday, USF bested Winona State, 53-52, in Winona, Minnesota, falling to Upper Iowa (76-67) on Saturday in Fayette, Iowa.

The Cougars will look to Megan Fannin to create offense, as she is fourth in the NSIC in field goal attempts and fifth in made 3-point field-goals, making 46 baskets from long range this season.

While Fannin puts up a lot of shots for Sioux Falls, Dallie Hoskinson gives the Cougars second chance opportunities, leading the NSIC in offensive rebounds averaging 3.7 per outing.

Fannin leads the Cougars with 13.5 points per outing while Hoskinson garners 7.7 rebounds a game.

About the Mustangs

Southwest Minnesota State is 11-11 overall while holding an 8-10 record in the NSIC. The Mustangs had a tough weekend falling to Upper Iowa (68-51) on Friday and Winona State (55-52) on Saturday.

Southwest Minnesota State averages 6.8 3-point field goals per game with Sam Wall leading the team averaging 1.77 per game, making 39 on the year. 

The Mustangs have taken advantage of the charity stripe this season, making 321 free-throws on 76.2 percent shooting. Meleah Reinhart shoots 83.9 percent from the free-throw line, having made 94 free-throws this year.

Defensively, the Mustangs have one of the best shot blockers in the nation in Abuk Akoi, who has 62 blocks this season, averaging 2.82 per game. Both feats are third in the NSIC and seventh in the nation. 

Reinhart averages 14.9 points per game while Abuk Akoi grabs 5.7 rebounds per outing.

About the Vikings

Augustana is 12-9 on the season while holding an NSIC ledger of 8-9. The Vikings are looking to bounce back from a two-loss road trip last week, falling to Concordia-St. Paul (65-64) on Friday evening and Minnesota State (80-72) on Saturday afternoon. 

Michaela Jewett has played valuable minutes for Augustana coming off the bench this season. Against Minnesota State, she set new season-highs of 12 points and nine rebounds to go with two blocks and a steal.

Lauren Sees averages a team-leading 15.6 points per contest while Aislinn Duffy averages a double-double of 14.7 points and 11.1 rebounds per outing.

One Last Thing

Kenzie Rensch made her way back to being the best in the NSIC in steals per game, averaging 3.0 with the help of her nice stat line against Concordia-St Paul of nine points, nine steals and seven rebounds.
