LINCOLN, Neb. – The Augustana track & field team had another historic day at the track, turning out a school record with all six Vikings earning personal-best times at the Nebraska-Tune-Up in Lincoln, Nebraska, on Friday Night.
The meet was highlighted by Ryan Hartman's school record in the 3,000m, running an NCAA Provisional Qualifying time of 8:04.78. His time was just shy of the South Dakota collegiate record of 8:04.17 run earlier this season by SDSU's Ben Olson.
The time currently ranks Hartman 12th in the nation in NCAA Division II.Â
"It was a great evening in Lincoln, Nebraska, with our group," director of track & field/cross country Tracy Hellman said. "We performed at a very high level. It was really special to see that every athlete that competed tonight set a personal best.
"This is a great springboard going into the conference championship next week."
Along with Hartman, the rest of the Vikings racing all turned out personal best performances.Â
Earlier in the day, Evan Johnson, a native of Lincoln, Nebraska, ran a personal best in the mile, clocking in at 4:07.60, just shy of winning the event.
Colten Brand was close behind Johnson, lowering his personal best from last week, running 4:07.85.
Matt Steiger also improved on his personal-best mile time from last week, placing seventh in 4:13.11.
Johnson's time lowers his No. 4 position on Augustana's Top-10 list while Brand moves to No. 5 on the Top-10 list.
In the women's 3,000m, Nicolette Schmidt and Patty Jo English went 1-2, running 9:41.57 and 9:49.10, respectively.
Both times are well under the NCAA Provisional Qualifying time and rank first and third in the NSIC, respectively.Â
Schmidt's personal-best time moves her to No. 3 on Augustana's Top-10 list while English moves to No. 5 on the all-time list.Â
