UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. – Pedro Borin had a pair of top finishes to shine for the Augustana men's swimming & diving team on day two of the GLIAC Championships, securing two top-eight finishes Saturday in University Center, Michigan.
"Today was a very good day for us," said Vikings head coach Lindsie Micko. "We had multiple finals swims and an additional 'B' cut. I am very proud of our young team."
Borin started by placing fifth in the 100 fly with a time of 49.30 in the preliminaries. In the final, he would improve his time and finish in 49.09 for a seventh place. Borin would also qualify for the 400 IM finals, swimming a time of 4:01.53 in the prelims. In the final, he hit the NCAA 'B' standard with his personal-best time of 4:00.20 for a sixth-place finish.
Mason Kauffeld would also qualify for the final of the 400 IM, placing 15th with a time of 4:08.96. He improved his time to 4:05.98 to place in a tie for 12th.
Lui Gabriel Pinto would score points for the Vikings placing 16th in the final of the 200 free with a time of 1:43.50. Earlier in the day, Pinto swam a time of 1:43.16 to qualify for the finals.
To cap off day two, the 400 medley relay team consisting of Jackson Dircks, Kauffeld, Borin, and Pinto, finished sixth with a personal-best time of 3:27.39.
The Vikings will be back in action Sunday for day three of the GLIAC Championships beginning at 9 a.m. and finals beginning at 4:30 p.m. Action can be followed at GoAugie.com/Live.
