Record Books Reset by Viking Divers at Rochester Invite

ROCHESTER, Minn. – The Augustana diving squads took to the pool on Thursday and Friday in Rochester, Minnesota, as part of the Rochester Invite. In the divers-only event, Avery Lommel and David Binsfeld each recorded school records in the 11-dive events. The duo reset the record books by etching their names into both the 1-meter and 3-meter dives.
 
Thursday
Women's 3-Meter Diving
  • Avery Lommel crushed her previous school record in the 3-meter, 11-dive event. She recorded 409.9 to win the event in the field of 22 divers.
  • She won by more than 35 points and topped the school record by 45 points.
  • Kate Robbins also advanced to the finals, consisting of the top-8, scoring 368.05 points. That mark was less than a point shy of the previous school record of 365.25 set last year by Robbins at the NSIC Championship.
Men's 1-Meter Diving
  • David Binsfeld set the school record in the 1-meter, 11-dive event with 379.75 points in the prelims.
  • He placed seventh overall in the finals with 378.85 points.
  • Caden Kavanagh totaled 368.60 points to place ninth.
Friday
Women's 1-Meter Diving
  • Lommel had another strong showing with the school record on the 1-meter, 11-dive event. She placed fifth overall with 371.5 points.
  • The school record was set in the prelims as she totaled 372.3 points.
  • Robbins totaled 341.15 points over her 11 dives Saturday.
Men's 3-Meter Diving
  • Binsfeld made it a clean sweep of the record books as he totaled 393.9 points in the prelims to set the new school record.
  • In the finals, he placed fifth with 386.0 points.
  • Caden Kavanagh totaled 354.75 points in the preliminary round to place 10th.
Up Next
The Vikings are off until 2024 when they'll host Minnesota Morris on Jan. 12. That dual will be Senior Night for the Viking seniors and also serve as the final tune-up prior to championship season.
