ABERDEEN, S.D.- The No. 18 Augustana Vikings wrestling program opened its NSIC schedule on Thursday night, defeating No. 13 Northern State 21-13 inside Wachs Arena.

With the win, the Vikings move to 3-1 overall and 1-0 in NSIC action, while the Wolves fall to 3-3 overall and 1-1 in the NSIC.

The night started at 125 pounds, where top-ranked 125 pounder Jaxson Rohman put forth a dominant effort to defeat Landen Fischer. Rohman recorded three takedowns, a reversal, and topped the effort off with a riding point to earn the only bonus point of the first half of the dual, taking a 12-4 decision. 

In his season debut, No. 10-ranked Hunter Burnett added to the team total at 141 pounds. After trailing 5-4 through two periods, Burnett battled back, earning an escape early and a late takedown to earn a decision.

At 157 pounds, redshirt freshman Payton Handevidt earned a gritty 8-4 decision. After a scoreless first period, Handevidt earned an escape and takedown in the second period, and after his lead was cut to 4-2 in the third, recorded another takedown and added a riding point to put the Vikings ahead 10-6.

Following the intermission, Tyler Wagener grinded through a bout in which he led just 1-0 in the third period. After allowing an escape, Wagener collected a late takedown to put him on top and extend the AU lead. 

After the Viking lead was cut to 13-10, Cade Mueller earned a huge victory at 184 pounds to extend the lead to six at 16-10. 

After leading 3-0 through the first period, Max Ramberg dominated the second period, earning a pair of four-point near falls, a takedown, and an escape to earn a tech fall and secure the Viking victory.
