Augustana Outdoor Track & Field Collects Six Provisional Marks Over Weekend

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – The Augustana outdoor track and field squads collected six provisional marks this weekend across three meets. Competing at the Jim Duncan Invite, the Wisconsin-Platteville Invite and the Sioux City Relays, the Vikings saw three individuals and two relays break into the Augustana top-10 list. 

Wisconsin-Platteville Invite
The Viking's saw exceptional performances in the 5000 meter run, highlighted by three individuals garnering NCAA Division II provisional qualifying marks. Ryan Hartman was the pack leader in the event, clocking in a time of 14:15.14. Next to follow was Matt Steiger who claimed a personal best with a time of 14:19.38. Closing out the provisional marks in the event was Jesse Kaas who crossed the finish line in a time of 14:24.93 to also garner a personal best. Steiger's time moves him to the sixth fastest time in program history while Kaas advances to the eighth fastest time.  

For the women, Patty Jo English garnered the ninth fastest time in all of Division II in the 5000 meter run. English clocked in a time of 16:42.02 to collect her second provisional mark of the season. She now holds two top-10 times in the nation, one in the 5000 meter run and an additional in the 1500 meter run. 

Jim Duncan Invite 
Both the men and women's 4x100 relay squads made program history through breaking into the Augustana outdoor top-10 lists. For the women, the quartet of Lauren Merkley, Ella Heinitz, Lily Juhnke and Nyanas Kur ran in a time of 47.30 to hold the fourth best time in program history. For the men, the team of Luke Berends, Andrew Martens, Trent DeCook and Gavin Fischer clinched the second fastest time in school history with a time of 41.42. The men's time was just .03 seconds short of tying the current school record in the event. 

Martens continued his success in individual competition being the first collegiate finisher in the 110 meter hurdles with a time of 14.62. His performance garnered him his second provisional mark in the event this season. 

Sioux City Relays
Elizabeth Schaefer found her stride in Sioux City, running the 17th fastest time in Division II in the 400 meter hurdles. Schaefer ran in a time of 1:01.93 to collect a personal best. She also recorded a personal best in the 100 meter hurdles clocking in a time of 14.50 being in the top-50 fastest times in the nation.
