Viking T&F Sees One Event Win and Multiple Personal Bests at Northwestern College Invite

ORANGE CITY, IOWA – The Augustana outdoor track & field team competed at the Northwestern College Invite this weekend where the Vikings recorded one event win while collecting multiple personal bests. Iris Velting won the 1500 meter run while Maria Pedroso, Mackenzie Hemmer, Alex Otten, Eli Oxner and Isaac Fink collected personal bests in their events.

Velting won the 1500 meter run clocking in a time of 4:44.05 to begin the day for Augustana. Shortly behind Velting were Tenley Nelson in third and Lindsey Young in fifth. Nelson crossed the finish line in a time of 4:52.38 while Young recorded a time of 4:57.95. Continuing her success in the 800 meter, Nelson also garnered a fourth place finish recording a time of 2:30.03. 

Alex Otten garnered a personal best in the 1500 meter run, running through the chute in a time of 4:08.80 shedding off 4.04 seconds from his previous best mark. In the 100 meter dash, Eli Oxner garnered a personal best of 11.29, shaving off .3 seconds from his previous personal best. 

The Viking women claimed a third through sixth place finish in the 400 meter hurdles. In the order of Anna Langseth, Kasey Van Zee, Olivia Amundson and Sheridan Ludeman. 

The men's 3000 meter steeplechase closed out competition for Augustana. Isaac Fink and Caden Tegethoff garnered a second and third place finish in the event with Fink collecting a personal best time of 10:08.66 and Tegethoff a time of 10:15.80. 

Heptathlon
Maria Pedroso won the heptathlon high jump, clearing a height of 5'3" to earn a personal best. Mackenzie Hemmer collected a third place finish in the high jump with a height of 4'11.5".

In the shot put, Hemmer won the event with a personal best distance throw of 39'11.5" while Pedroso finished in second with a throw of 32'02.25". 

Hemmer also won the 200 meter with a personal best time of 28.75, whilst Pedroso claimed fourth with an additional personal best time of 29.10. 

In the 800 meter dash, Pedroso won her second event of the weekend with a time of 2:44.17 while Hemmer claimed second with a time of 2:44.91. 

The pair finished the heptathlon in second and third place, with Pedroso clinching second with 3,857 points and Hemmer taking third with 3,833 points.

The Vikings return to action on Wednesday at the Mount Marty Invite, then Augustana will see squads competing at the Drake Relays and the Simpson Invite Apr. 27-29.
