Augustana Set for Cross-Town Battle with Cougars

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – Augustana women's basketball (0-4 overall) returns to action with cross-town rivalry action in a Thursday tilt at the University of Sioux Falls, with tipoff at the Stewart Center set for 7 p.m.

THE COUGARS
Sioux Falls holds a 2-3 record through its first five games of the 2024-25 season, logging victories over Waldorf (87-58) and South Dakota Mines (78-47) and losses to Missouri Western (79-68), Emporia State (64-62) and Black Hills State (70-51). 

In the NSIC preseason poll, the Cougars were picked to finish seventh by the league's coaches while reigning NSIC Freshman of the Year, Kami Wadsworth, was chosen as the team's Preseason Player to Watch. 

Wadsworth leads Sioux Falls with an average of 15.2 points/game and 2.6 rebounds/game. Aby Phipps and Anna Waaler each average five rebounds a game while Ayla Brown has dished an average of 3.6 assists/game.

THE VIKINGS
Augustana looks to grab its first win of the season following an 0-4 start, with recent losses to Upper Iowa and Central Missouri at home last weekend. 

Hannah Burg currently leads Augustana in scoring with an average of 12.8 points/game while Paige Grant (10.3 points/game) and Olivia Hayenga (10.0) follow closely behind. Payton Hardy leads in rebounding with an average of 7.8 per game while Burg sits with 4.3 assists per game. 

SERIES HISTORY
Augustana holds the all-time advantage against Sioux Falls with a 37-14 cumulative record against the Cougars. The most recent game—and victory—came on Nov. 21, 2023 in a 73-56 win inside the Elmen Center.  

LAST TIME OUT
Augustana hosted Upper Iowa last Thursday and saw a career-best performance from Paige Grant as she dropped 16 points off 7-of-12 shooting from the field. Hannah Burg joined her with 12 points and Payton Hardy pulled down 10 total rebounds in the 79-58 loss.

The Vikings also battled it out with Central Missouri on Saturday, falling 80-71 in the tightly contested game. Hannah Burg scored a career-high 20 points off of 8-of-10 shooting with seven assists while Payton Hardy dropped 14 points with nine rebounds and Paige Grant scored 10 points with five rebounds. 

LOOKING AHEAD
Augustana returns to the Elmen Center to host Hastings College on Wednesday, Nov. 27 with a 2 p.m. tipoff.
