SACRAMENTO, Calif. - The Augustana women's cross country program finished another successful season at the NCAA Championships, placing 10th as a team while sophomore
Ashley Overgaauw earned All-American honors for the first time in her career.
"What a weekend for Augustana Cross Country," said
Tracy Hellman. "Our teams have always prided themselves on finishing well and we have a strong tradition of excellence at the ncaa championships.
Overgaauw paced the Viking women with her 38th place finish while covering the 6K course in 21:25.8. She moved up steadily throughout the race, sitting in 83rd position just 1K into the race. She then was in 48th place at the 3.8K marker before inching ahead for All-America honors.
Taylor Melton placed 91st in a time of 22:05.9, also moving up through the field much like
Overgaauw. She was in 151st after 1K and 123rd after 3.8K.
Melton led the Vikings pack as
Ella Bakken and
Tenley Nelson each placed 97 and 100, respectively. Bakken's time was 22:08.8 while Nelson clocked in at 22:10.5.
"Bakken has been a leader for our program all year long and she was instrumental in our team's success today," said Hellman. "I'm very proud of the team. Great things ahead for the Vikings, and as we have always said, it's a GREAT day to be a Viking!"
Eleni Lovgren finished 109th with a time of 22:15.9 to finish just behind the pack. Caroline
Sudbeck earned a 156 place finish as she timed in at 22:42.6. The final Viking in the race was
Lindsey Young as she timed in at 23:05.1.
