WAYNE, Neb. - The Augustana men's cross country team earned yet another victory at the NSIC Championships while the women's team finished fourth at a windy Wayne Country Club on Friday afternoon.
The Vikings had the men's NSIC Newcomer of the Year in
Payton Brown, who earned runner-up honors in the men's race with a time of 25:04.84, and the NSIC Coach of the Year on the men's side in
Scott Tanis.
The 25th-ranked men's program had five top-10 finishes and a total of eight Vikings in the top 20 while cruising to victory.
Brown and
Bryant Keller headlined a team effort, finishing second in 25:04.84 and third in 25:08.16, respectively, in their first career NSIC Championships.
10 seconds later,
Kadin Groen crossed the finish line to place fifth and earn All-NSIC honors for the second year in a row.
Isaiah Anderson earned his first career All-NSIC First Team honor with a seventh place finish at 25:21.26.
Tyson Ricker placed 10th and earned first team honors with a time of 25:30.48.
Three other Vikings made their way into the top 20.
Alex Schumacher placed 11th with a time of 25:44.48.
Max Salas crossed the finish line in 26:09.77 to place 16th and Aemil Nelson placed 19th with a time of 26:12.27.
The women opened the day with three All-NSIC performances and five finishers inside the top 30.
The pack was led by freshman
Allyson Sample, who finished in seventh in 22:12.20 to earn her first All-NSIC honors.
Tenley Nelson earned a 13th-place finish and made her third straight All-NSIC Second Team with a time of 22:31.7.
Junior
Ramsey Karim made her first career All-NSIC team with a 17th place finish in 22:47.70.
Lindsey Young closed the race in 25th with a time of 23:18.50 and
Kaelyn Nelson finished 28th in 23:25.30 to round out the top-five Vikings.
The top ten finishers are named All-NSIC First Team while finishers 11-20 earn All-NSIC Second Team honors.
