Dirksen Signs With the Sioux Falls Canaries

12/3/2024 1:47:00 PM

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – Augustana's all-time home run king Drey Dirksen has signed a contract with the Sioux Falls Canaries, becoming the 35th student-athlete under AU head coach Tim Huber to go onto a professional career.

"Drey obviously had a heck of a career with us," Huber said. "We knew he would eventually sign with someone and he is going to be a great addition to the Canaries team. I was surprised no MLB teams moved on Drey but that is how things go now with the new draft format of only 20 rounds. Maybe something could still transpire for him with a MLB team. He will get his opportunity now to show what he is capable of at the next level."

A First Team Academic All-American, Dirksen slugged 20 home runs (12th nationally) in his senior season and slashed .295/.447/.722 while driving in 51 runs and scoring 57. His 1.169 OPS was second on the team while his 43 walks ranked first.

Over his career, Dirksen mashed 56 home runs, seven more than second place, holds the program record in sacrifice flies, and ranks in the top ten in slugging percentage, games played, runs scored, RBI, total bases, walks and stolen base percentage against.

Dirksen was an NCBWA All-Region Second Team honoree, All-NSIC First Team member, NSIC Gold Glove recipient and NSIC All-Tournament honoree as a senior.
