SIOUX FALLS, S.D. –
Avery Lommel dominated the competition Thursday as part of Augustana's second day at the NSIC Championships Thursday at Midco Aquatic Center in Sioux Falls, S.D. Lommel set the school record with 454.75 points en route to her victory. In addition, the 400 medley relay team shattered the NSIC record while claiming the Gold medal in the event.
Augustana maintained control of the NSIC Championships with 430.5 points to sit ahead of second place Minnesota State with 399 points.
Lommel, a true freshman, raised her own school record point total while further solidifying herself at the NCAA Division II Championships as she is now 34.75 points above the cutline. She won the event by 26 points over her top competitor from Concordia-St. Paul.
Her victory is the first NSIC Championship for a diver in Augustana program history.
In addition,
Kate Robbins placed 10
th overall with 359.7 points and
Clare Duplissis placed 15
th with 338.2 points.
The 400 medley relay team consisted of
Bryn Greenwaldt,
Nesrine Jelliti,
Angelina Chan and
Meesha Montgomery. The team clocked in at 3:43.68 to lower the NSIC record by 1.5 seconds and the school record by three seconds. The quartet won the event by more than three seconds.
Angelina Chan timed in at 56.97 to place fourth in the 100 fly in the evening's opening event.
Gracin Larson was victorious in the B Final of the 100 fly as she touched the wall in 57.67 to place ninth overall. In the same B Final,
Nathalia Silva was 11
th overall in 58.04.
The 400 IM saw
Maija Kangas win the B Final in a time of 4:34.23 to score nine team points for AU.
Leona Coha placed 11
th in 4:38.01. The event was an 18-point event for the Vikings as
Ella Ward-Zeller placed 15
th in 4:45.05 and Lara Matuck 16
th in 4:45.12.
To make it three-straight fourth-place finishes for Augustana on the second night of the conference meet,
Meesha Montgomery clocked in an NCAA 'B' cut time of 1:52.91. She was followed to the wall by
Amaya Street in fifth and her time of 1:54.36. In addition, another Viking claimed a B Final as
Sofia Hein placed ninth overall in 1:54.00.
Makoa Montgomery was the final Viking point scorer in the event as she placed 10
th in 1:54.76.
