DENVER, Colo. – The Augustana baseball team dropped a Sunday contest to Regis, 14-4, to split their opening series. The Vikings move to 2-2 overall, while Regis moves to 8-7-1.
The Rangers opened the game with a six-run first inning. The Vikings countered with a pair of runs in the top of the second.
Tate Meiners,
Ragan Pinnow, and
Luke Ballweg loaded the bases to lead the inning off. Meiners and Pinnow scored on consecutive fielder's choices, bringing the Vikings within four.
In the bottom of the inning, the RU scored five of its own to lead 11-2.
Jack Hines scored a run in the third during a rundown, and scored again in the fifth on a
Joe Kolbeck RBI single to round out the AU scoring.
Winterstein, Hines, Ballweg, and Kolbeck each tallied a hit.
Caleb Kranz was dealt the loss in his season debut.
Augustana travels to St. Joseph, Mo., for a Tuesday afternoon game against Missouri Western. First pitch slated for 3 p.m.
