HOLLAND, Mich. – The Augustana men's swimming and diving team opened action at the GLIAC Championships Friday. Both relay squads broke school records while
David Binsfeld set a new 1-meter, 11 dives record.

"Today was a good first day to be back competing," Augustana head coach
Andrew Makepeace said. "The men have a tough test in the GLIAC with some of the best teams in NCAA Division II and they showed they can battle.

"We set school records and had a really impressive evening.
David Binsfeld had a great start to his conference diving career and we can't wait to see what our dive squad has in store on the 3-meter board on Super Bowl Sunday. The swimming squad had a great evening and that should propel our team to even greater heights as the weekend rolls along."

The 200 medley relay team of
Ethan Kinney,
Mason Kauffeld,
Pedro Borin and
Peyton Bartsch opened the night with a school record, clocking in at 1:30.88, taking more than two seconds off their previous best this year.

Bartsch then swam in the B Final of the 50-free, clocking in at 21.15, garnering points for AU in 16
th position. Previously in the day, he matched his personal best in a time of 20.68.

The final event of the night, the 200 free relay, closed with a school record while placing sixth. The group of Borin,
Isaac Rokusek, Kinney and Bartsch touched the wall in 1:22.63.

Binsfeld had a successful night on the boards as he accumulated a school record 393.75 points on the 1-meter, 11 dives. He placed 10
th, garnering seven valuable points for the Vikings.

The team is back in action Saturday, Sunday and Monday with prelims starting at 9 a.m. each day. The finals each night begin at 4:30 p.m. in Holland, Michigan.
