AZUSA, Calif. – Augustana men's and women's track and field took part in two different events, Thursday and Friday. A group of Vikings took flight towards California for the three-day Bryan Clay Invitational while a few distance runners took part in the UW-Platteville Invitational.
Bryan Clay Invitational
Erik Gundersen highlighted Thursday night's invite in California as he broke a school record in the men's 10,000m run with a time of 29:32.95. Gundersen broke a record set by Paul Yak back in 2012 by 24 seconds.Â
Aubrey Surage now stands fifth all-time in the women's 10,000m run as she crossed the finish line with a time of 35:00.07 Thursday night.Â
Caroline Sudbeck blazed across the finish line with ​​an NCAA Provisional time of 2:11.53 in the women's 800m run.Â
Maria Pedroso hit a provisional mark and a 700-point personal record in the women's heptathlon with a score of 4, 716 to continue the Vikings strong finishes. Pedroso finished in the top-three three different events to score an overall finish of fourth.Â
Kylee Sallee recorded an overall score of 4,678 in group "D" of the invite and finished top-three in two events.Â
Cal State LA Twilight Open
Two lone Vikings in
Maia Peterson and
Ella Heinitz made their way to a separate invite while in California to compete in the Cal State LA Twilight Open. Peterson and Heinitz dominated the field with second and third place finishes in the 400m. Peterson garnered a lifetime best outdoor time of 57.26 while Heinitz also finished with an outdoor lifetime best time of 57.66.
UW-Platteville Invitational
A select group of distance runners made the trip to Wisconsin to run in the UW-platteville 5k Invitational.Â
On the women's side
Ashley Overgaauw dashed across the finish line first for the Vikings with a time of 17:10.26.
Laura Thompson followed behind Overgaauw with a time of 17:13.72.
Eleni Lovgren rounded out the top-three finishers for Augustana with a time of 17:21.04.Â
Jesse Kaas highlighted the men's side with a time of 14:36.20. Freshman
Dawson Strom finished shortly behind Kaas with a time of 14:38.35.
Brady Hogan sailed across the finish line with the third best finish for the Vikings with a time of 14:49.00.
Kadin Groen,
Isaac Fink,
Evan Myran and
Parker Fitzgerald finished strong to end the night.Â
