Viking Track and Field Garners Multiple Podium Finishes

MADISON, S.D. – Augustana track and field took the short bus trip to Madison, South Dakota for the Dakota State Twilight Invitational Tuesday night. Multiple Vikings finished on the podium throughout the night. 

Jonathan Sikel had a night in the field with a first-place finish in the men's long jump with a leap of 6.77m. Lauren Merkley joined Sikel with her first-place finish in the women's long jump with a mark of 5.35m. 

Baylee Van Zee continued her momentum from last weekend with a second-place finish in the women's 100m hurdles with a time of 15.03. Claire Fierro followed Van Zee with a third-place time of 17.18. 

Katie Wentzy crossed the finish line with a second-place time of 1:07.40 in the women's 400m. 

Three Vikings recorded strong finishes in the women's triple jump as Samantha Sundby leaped to a third-place finish with a mark of 10.64m. Alexis Olderbak recorded a fourth-place mark of 10.34m and Mackenzie Hemmer rounded out the top five with a leap of 10.26m

Olivia Amundson bolted across the line with a second-place finish in the women's 100m with a time of 12.34. Lauren Merkley found herself in fourth with a time of 12.92. 

Anna Langseth captured a first-place finish in the women's 400m hurdles with a time of 1:08.98. On the men's side, Colter Johnson crossed the line with a first-place finish of his own with a time of 58.78. 

Anna Jensen kept the night rolling with a second-place finish in the women's 200m as she crossed the line with a time of 26.28.

In the open 800m,  Sydnee Serck garnered a first-place time of 2:18.10, edging out a runner from South Dakota State. On the men's side, Will Sugrue ran for a time of 2:03.98. 

Beau Brock capped off the night with a first-place finish in the men's 1500m with a time of 4:09.02. Noah Gandley finished behind Brock in third with a time of 4:19.32.

Augustana continues its time on the road as it is set to compete in two different meets this weekend with the Drake Relays and Simpson Invitational. Head coach Tracy Hellman will be inducted into the Drake Relays Hall of Fame Thursday.
