Seven Vikings Named USTFCCCA All-Region

NEW ORLEANS – All-Region honors for the 2024 NCAA Division II Outdoor Track & Field season were announced on Friday by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) following the conclusion of the regular season and seven Vikings were named with honors. 

Erik Gundersen, Ryan Hartman, Andrew Martens, Ella Bakken, Bryn Greenwaldt, Kaja Salemonsen and Aubrey Surage all earned honors in their respective events. 

Gundersen was named All-Region in the men's 10000m after his time of 29.32.95 at the 2024 Bryan Clay Invitational on April 23. 

Hartman won two NSIC Championships in the 1500m and 5000m and received All-Region honors in those respective events. He blazed to a time of 3:52.77 in the men's 1500m at the USD Early Bird on April 6 and crossed the finish line with a time of 13:49.73 in the men's 5000m at the 2024 Bryan Clay Invitational on April 13. 

Fresh off winning an NSIC Championship, Martens received honors in the 110m hurdles with a time of 13.88 at the USD Early Bird on April 6.

On the women's side, Bakken garnered honors in the 5000m and 10000m. On April 24, Bakken dashed across the finish line with a time of 16:54.98 in the Gary Wilson Invitational. In early April, she blazed to a first-place finish in the women's 10000m with a time of 35:23.84 at the Leopard Distance Carnival. 

Two-sport athlete, Greenwaldt hit a mark of 1.74 in the South Dakota Challenge on April 13. Her mark is sixth in program history. 

Fresh off breaking a new school record during the NSIC Championships, Salemonsen recorded All-Region honors with a mark of 12.85m in the women's triple jump. 

Surage joins Bakken with All-Region honors in the women's 10000m after finishing with a time of 35:00.07 in the 2024 Bryan Clay Invitational on April 13. 

Martens, Hartman, Salemonsen and Greenwaldt qualified for the DII National Championships in Emporia, Kansas set to begin on May 23-25.
