DALLAS, Texas – Following one of the best individual seasons in program history,
Jack Hines is officially the best in the country. Hines was named the NCBWA National Player of the Year on Thursday morning.
Hines becomes the first player in program history to earn National Player of the Year from any of the three publications (NCBWA, D2CCA, ABCA) and second player to earn a national individual award, joining 2017 D2CCA and NCBWA National Pitcher of the Year Jacob Blank. He is also the fifth player in program history to be named to the NCBWA All-American First Team.
In his final season at Augustana, Hines was an elite and steady presence in the middle of the Viking order. He hit .445 with 93 hits, 21 home runs, 89 RBI, 77 runs scored, 178 total bases, an .852 slugging percentage and a 1.337 OPS. He was the only player in the country to rank in the top 10 nationally for each category.
The NSIC Player of the Year broke the program single-season records in slugging percentage, home runs, RBI and total bases while adding top-five marks in batting average, runs scored, hits and triples.
In his three-year Viking career, Hines left his mark. He ranks top-10 in career batting average (.387), slugging percentage (.676), on-base percentage (.466), runs scored (178), hits (237), home runs (37), RBI (171), total bases (414) and double plays turned (68) while resetting the triples (14) and times hit by pitch (42) records.
