Dirksen Earns Academic All-American First Team Honors

7/2/2024 11:00:00 AM

AUSTIN, Texas - Augustana senior catcher Drey Dirksen has been named to the 2024 CSC Division II Academic All-America Baseball First Team, selected by College Sports Communicators (CSC) and announced Tuesday afternoon.

Dirksen holds a 3.75 GPA while pursuing his MBA at Augustana.

"Drey joins a very select group being named to this team," said head coach Tim Huber. "You have to be able to play the game at a high level but also take care of business in the classroom. Drey has certainly done both during his time at Augustana."

Augustana's all-time home run leader, Dirksen slugged 20 home runs (12th nationally) in his senior season and slashed .295/.447/.722 while driving in 51 runs and scoring 57. His 1.169 OPS was second on the team while his 43 walks ranked first.

Over his career, Dirksen mashed 56 home runs, seven more than second place, holds the program record in sacrifice flies, and ranks in the top ten in slugging percentage, games played, runs scored, RBI, total bases, walks and stolen base percentage against.

Dirksen was an NCBWA All-Region Second Team honoree, All-NSIC First Team member, NSIC Gold Glove recipient and NSIC All-Tournament honoree as a senior.

He becomes the first Viking baseball player to take home First Team Academic All-America honors since Riley Johnson did it in 2020. He also becomes the 10th Viking baseball player to take home the award and the sixth under head coach Tim Huber
