SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – Augustana hockey announced its 2024-25 leadership group on Tuesday night in front of its founding partners in Midco Arena. 

Senior forward Luke Mobley was named the second captain in program history and will be joined by assistants Evan McIntyre, Brady Ziemer and Payton Matsui. In Augustana's inaugural season, Mobley spent the 2023-24 season as an assistant captain. 

Mobley, a St. Louis Park, Minnesota native, garnered 19 points in the 2023-24 season and scored the first Viking goal in Midco Arena. He recorded 12 goals and is the highest point returner from the inaugural season roster. 

Ziemer, a senior defenseman is coming off a career high 10 points by way of three goals and seven assists. He suited up in 34 games last season and led the team in blocked shots with 66. 

McIntyre played in 34 games last season and recorded 11 points on the blue line with three goals and eight assists. The Oakville, Ontario native netted his first career goal in Augustana's win over Northern Michigan. 

A graduate transfer from Alaska-Fairbanks, Matsui recorded 54 points in 94 games through three seasons. He tallied a career-high 28 points in the 2022-23 season with nine goals and 19 assists. Last season with the Nanooks, he netted five goals and handed out 15 assists. 

Augustana will begin the 2024-25 season with an exhibition matchup against North Dakota on Saturday, Oct. 5 in Grand Forks, North Dakota. The Vikings will open the regular season at Midco Arena the following weekend against Long Island. The CCHA slate begins November 2-3 in St. Paul, Minnesota, against St. Thomas.
