Hockey Prepares for St. Thomas

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – The Augustana hockey team (6-4, 3-3 CCHA) returns home for a lone conference game at Midco Arena against St. Thomas (4-5-1, 1-1 CCHA) on Saturday at 6:07 p.m.

Series History 
This will be the third meeting in program history against the Tommies. Augustana holds an overall record of 3-1 against St. Thomas. In the inaugural season, Augustana swept the Tommies by scores of 4-2 and 2-1. In the 2024-25 season, the Vikings split with St. Thomas by scores of 0-4 and 3-2. 

The Tommies
St. Thomas enters the weekend with a 4-5-1 record and on a two-game winning streak. It completed the season sweep over St. Cloud last Tuesday with a 3-1 win. In conference play, St. Thomas split with Minnesota State, losing game one, 3-1, before it bounced back with a 4-3 win in overtime. 

Alex Gaffney joined the Tommies last off-season after skating in over 100 games with Harvard, where he recorded 41 points by way of 22 goals and 19 assists. This season, Gaffney leads St. Thomas with 15 points. Senior captain, Lucas Wahlin, is second on the team in points with eight points with five goals and three assists. 

The Vikings
Augustana enters the weekend with a mark of 6-4 after it split with Ferris State last weekend. The Vikings defeated the Bulldogs, 4-2, last Friday before falling 2-0 in Saturday's affair. In conference play, Augustana is 3-3 with wins over Northern Michigan and Ferris State. 

Josh Kotai garnered a spot on the United States Collegiate Selects roster that will compete in the Spengler Cup from December 26-31 in Davos, Switzerland. Kotai, a British Columbia native, owns a 6-4 record in the 2025-26 season with a goals against average of 1.81 and a save percentage of .940. He finished his sophomore season as a Mike Richter Award Finalist and earned HCA Goalie of the Month honors twice.

Augustana has netted 25 goals through the first 10 games of the season. Of the 25 goals, the Vikings have scored half of those in the third period. By period splits, 4-7-14 vs opponents 7-7-3-1.
