MANHEIM, Pa. – Heading into the Super Regional V Tournament, Augustana wrestling sits at No. 9 in the most recent NWCA Division II Poll released on Monday with four individually-ranked wrestlers in the top-10.
The Vikings totaled 41.0 points in the poll and are one of four NSIC team in the top 25, with all four placing in the top 15. St. Cloud State leads the rankings with 96.5 points followed by Nebraska-Kearney in second (70.0), Parkside in third (68.0), Central Oklahoma in fourth (66.5) and Glenville State in fifth (61.0)
Jaxson Rohman is No. 3 at 125 pounds with a cumulative season record of 15-4. Since the latest rankings, Rohman has gone 6-0 with three tech falls, two pins and a decision. His last three matches against Minnesota State, Sioux Falls and MSU Moorhead have all ended in tech falls, with his bout against Jaxton Packer of USF ending in 2:48.
At 149 pounds,
Cael Larson has won his six matches since the last NWCA ranking and holds the No. 5 spot in the country. He pinned Trae Thilmony of UMary in 1:15 on Jan. 24 and has since collected three tech falls and two decisions, with his last two matches ending with tech falls in the second periods to push his record to 16-5.
With a record of 15-5,
Cade Mueller boasts a No. 8 ranking at 184 pounds and has amassed three tech falls and a decision. He went 2-0 over alumni weekend and collected victories over UMary and Minot State and is in the midst of a back-to-back-to-back tech fall streak against the Beavers, Sioux Falls and MSU Moorhead.
The final ranked wrestler for the Vikings is
Max Ramberg, who at 197 pounds, maintains his No. 4 position. He's gone 6-0 in the last six duals, collecting two major decisions, a sudden victory and three straight tech falls to improve to 28-4. Ramberg has broken the Augustana school record for tech falls in a season (13) and is tied for first in the nation in the same category as an attached wrestler (11).
Augustana returns to Sioux Falls to host the NCAA Super Region V Tournament on Saturday, March 1, with action inside the Elmen Center set to kick off at 10 a.m.
