Vikings Set to Take on Conference Championships

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. - The Vikings dominated the NSIC Indoor Track & Field Championships last year–with eight Vikings earning NSIC titles, the men's team placing second, and the women's team placing third–and they look to repeat their success. Augustana will hit the road to compete in Mankato, Minn., on Feb. 28 and March 1 for the conference championships. 
 
Events will begin at 9:30 a.m., and field events at 10:15 a.m., on Friday. On Saturday, running events will begin at 9 a.m., and field events at 9:45 a.m.

Ryan Hartman looks to remain an NSIC Champion in the mile and 1000-meter. He also is striving to add the title of NSIC Champion in the 3000-meter and 5000-meter where he holds the best time in the conference for both events. Hartman has shattered four Augustana school records this season, most recently on Feb. 14. in Boston, where he ran a 7:58.48 in the 3000-meter run. 
        
Ella Bakken is a top runner to make it back to the podium for the 5000-meter where she currently sits with the second-best time in the conference. Bakken has seen success as well in the mile and 3000-meter.
 
Lily Juhnke, who has had an incredible indoor season so far, looks to make her mark in the championships this year. Juhnke currently holds the seventh-best time in the conference for the 60-meter dash and is a top contender for a podium finish.
 
Along with Juhnke, Nyanas Kur has had a standout indoor season. Kur looks to land a spot on the podium in the 200-meter dash where she currently sits fifth on the conference performance list. She also looks to do the same in the 400-meter dash where she sits with the third-best time in the conference. Kur has broken or tied five school records so far this season. 
 
Bryn Greenwaldt, a two-sport athlete, was the high jump NSIC Champion last year and is looking to repeat. Continuing with field events, Kylee Sallee currently sits at seventh place in the women's long jump and is competing for a podium finish. 
 
The women's 4x400-meter relay team finished as NSIC Champions last year and look to repeat again this year, having clocked a 3:50.13 at the SDSU D2/NAIA Open for the third-best time in the conference this season. 
 
The men's distance medley relay team looks to be repeat champions this year after a stellar performance a season ago. 
 
Andrew Martens looks to conquer the first place spot in the 60-meter hurdles this year after finishing second last year. He currently holds the second-best time in the conference.
 
Other notable performances for the men's team includes Tyson Ricker and Alez Otten who sit at fifth and sixth in the 800-meter run in the conference and are competing for a spot on the podium. Jude Jarding, a freshman, has had a strong indoor season in the 400-meter dash and looks to land a spot on the podium for the first time. Trent DeCook also looks to land himself a podium finish in the 200-meter dash. 
 
For the women's team, Sydnee Serck and Caroline Sudbeck are expected to finish strong in the 800-meter. Maria Pedroso and Salle will compete for podium finishes in the pentathlon, where they sit with the fifth and sixth best times in the conference. 
 
Up Next
The Augustana Vikings will compete at the NCAA Indoor Championships if such athletes are to advance. The NCAA Indoor Championships will be held on March 15 and 16 in Indianapolis, Indiana.
